About Lara

Let me just get to the point. If we’re living on this planet — which we obviously are — then God desires for hope and joy to stir within us. Yet so often we live defeated and overwhelmed. I get it. Life can be hard.

But I can attest to the fact that God really can bring joy from ashes and give peace in the storms. He can tear down strongholds and give us strength to overcome. And He does it regardless of our circumstance. In whatever season we find ourselves — from the lowest valley to the highest mountaintop – God really can give us peace.

Who am I? I’m Lara. But before you get some distorted view in your sweet brain, know this. I fail daily. Hourly. I run after my selfish agenda and react to spilled milk. But God graciously picks me back up and sets my feet firm, while whispering promises of love and mercy.

God continually pursues us with His love. He’s so kind. And the truth of His character is meant to affect us on Monday and Tuesday and every other day. Let’s ask Him to help us think on true things.

Everyday Life

In everyday life, I’m married to my amazing husband, Cliff. Together we have 5 teenagers – think, “Brady Bunch” – which means there’s always something going on at our house. We love to laugh, travel, and find great burger joints.

Learning to think on true things even when life is messy…then I write about it.

Escape – though that sounds lovely given the state Escape – though that sounds lovely given the state of the world – actually isn’t the solution to the suffering found here on earth. The answer to the pain of this world is the love of God displayed in the finished work of Christ, lived out through the lives of his people under the faithful keeping of the Father. Lord, help us. Encountering heretical teaching in the church is n Encountering heretical teaching in the church is nothing new. Here’s Paul’s response to heretical teaching in a letter he wrote to the people of Galatia, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Galatians‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ) As Christ followers, we’re called to filter the things we see and hear through the lens of Jesus’ teachings.
“Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallo “Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭ Amen and amen. #250prayer #chasetheLight
Abide. Jesus says that word 10 times in 6 verses i Abide. Jesus says that word 10 times in 6 verses in John 15. Abide. He says we cannot bear fruit unless we abide in him. What’s the fruit of God? Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, self-control. (See Galatians 5:19-26) Don’t let the enemy steal what Jesus died to give. #wordsinred (link to my “Words in Red” series in bio)
I’ve been so burdened to purposefully pray for our I’ve been so burdened to purposefully pray for our nation. So much evil is being exposed. And it’s become so very clear that we’re in the midst of a literal spiritual war. And though it can sometimes feel so far out of our control, we are not powerless in Jesus name. We’re just not. So I have an alarm set on my phone for 2:50 everyday to pause and pray. (Signifying the 250th anniversary of the USA) Sometimes I pray for a minute. Sometimes I pray for extended period of time. But I would love for you to join me. Evil is here on this earth but it will not have the final say. Because Jesus Christ is king. #250prayer #wordsinred *Link in bio to prayer guide*
Jesus tells us two times in John 14 to not *let* o Jesus tells us two times in John 14 to not *let* our hearts and minds be troubled and afraid. There’s a lot of evil being exposed in our world. But that does not change the fact that Jesus wins. #wordsinred
There is so much darkness on this earth. But Jesus There is so much darkness on this earth. But Jesus is light. Jesus is love. Jesus wins. Believe in him. #wordsinred
There’s a hero of the story and his name is Jesus. There’s a hero of the story and his name is Jesus. If you don’t yet know him, get to know him. Read the book of John. He loves. He empowers. He wins. (To those who do know him, let’s put on our spiritual armor and get to work. There are battles to fight. Ephesians 6:10-20). #wordsinred

Do you know who Jesus confronted over and over and Do you know who Jesus confronted over and over and over when he was on the earth? He confronted the “religious” - Those who claimed to be following God yet the had no love for God or neighbor. It’s way easier to know a lot about God than to actually follow Jesus. #wordsinred (Link to series in profile)
Humans love to be right. We looooooove to be right Humans love to be right. We looooooove to be right. We love a good “I told you so” moment, even if we keep it inside ourselves. Our proud flesh loves to hold up laws and point and shout, “See! She’s wrong! Now kill her!” (See John 8)

Humans especially like it if they feel it’s *justified by God.*

—->>> But if you and I call ourselves Jesus followers, we must take this as a warning. We must be careful that we do not hold up the letter of the law in efforts to condemn another, while missing the purpose and spirit of the law. Because the spirit of God’s law is love.

Grace. Mercy. Love. Lord hep us. #wordsinred Link to series in profile.

When the crowd found Jesus on the other side of th When the crowd found Jesus on the other side of the sea, they asked him *when* he had come there. (6:25) But Jesus didn’t answer the when question. He could have said, “Oh, I came here yesterday.” But instead he told them *why* they were searching for him, “You are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate your fill of the loaves.” (6:26) He uncovered that they were looking for what Jesus could materially give them while missing the point that he was there to give them himself. #wordsinred Link to series in profile
